County looks for more input on Gwinnett Place Mall
Gwinnett County invites you to bring together a small group of neighbors, friends, family, and colleagues for a conversation to discuss the future of Gwinnett Place Mall on Wednesday, November 10.
The County’s Meetings-in-a-Box is a community engagement opportunity to get input about the equitable redevelopment process for the Gwinnett Place Mall site in Duluth. The event will take place at Berkmar High School in Lilburn from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Dinner will be provided and participants are encouraged to register.
“For this particular project, we’re doing redevelopment differently. This will not be a top-down approach,” said Board Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson. “We are the most diverse county in the state of Georgia and it’s important to me and to our board that we involve our diverse stakeholders in driving this process.”
Community meetings can happen conveniently on-demand, in-person or virtually. In fact, District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden will host a meeting this Saturday, November 6.
A Meetings-in-a-Box toolkit is available on ReclaimGwinnettPlaceMall.com. The kit contains a script and questions to help facilitate the discussion. The time commitment should be no more than one hour and 15 minutes, plus time to plan and prepare. Each group should have about eight to 12 participants and a designated notetaker.
Feedback from the Meetings-In-A-Box should also be sent to ReclaimGwinnettPlaceMall.com by Friday, November 12.

Gwinnett’s annual Veterans Day ceremony honors those who served
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Gwinnett County will recognize the men and women who served in the armed forces during its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial on the grounds of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, in Lawrenceville.
The ceremony will be held in-person with an option for residents to tune in live via the County’s Facebook page @GwinnettGov.
The ceremony will commence with a Veterans March at the memorial. All veterans who served honorably are encouraged to participate and be honored for their service and sacrifice.
Retired Maj. Gen. Ronald L. Johnson, a professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s ceremony.
In the Army, Johnson served as the deputy commanding general and deputy chief of engineers, the second highest-ranking senior engineer staff officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After a 32-year career, he retired in April 2008. Johnson’s awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star, Legion of Merit (with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge, and the Recruiter Badge
Johnson, a graduate of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2016, is the former Managing Director of the Tennenbaum Institute of Enterprise Transformation at Georgia Tech. He is also the recipient of the 2003 Black Engineer of the Year Award for Professional Achievement in Government Service, an inductee into the 2005 Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni at Georgia Tech and the recipient of the 2008 Black Engineer Lifetime Achievement Award.
The County hosts its Veterans Day Ceremony each November to pay tribute to those in the military during wartime or peacetime. Gwinnett residents who have served in any branch of the armed forces and their families are invited to participate. Likewise, all residents are encouraged to attend to show appreciation to those who helped protect and defend the country.
In addition to live streaming on Facebook, the Veterans Day Ceremony will be televised beginning at 8:00pm on November 11 on TV Gwinnett, the County’s local government access cable channel, and will be available streaming and on demand at TVGwinnett.com.
