Fireworks FAQs

Independence Day is soon, which means food, family, fun, and fireworks! As Gwinnett prepares to celebrate Independence Day, it’s important to review our County and state fireworks laws so that we all have a fun and safe holiday.
When can I light my fireworks?
Fireworks can be used on July 3 and 4 between 10:00am to 11:59pm.
Where can I light fireworks?
When lighting fireworks, make sure to avoid homes, grass, trees, and other objects that can easily catch fire.
Firework celebrations cannot occur in recreational facilities, parks, and other state property unless you have received a permit from the Gwinnett Fire Marshal’s Office. You can find applications for a Fire Temporary Permit on the Fire Plan Review webpage.
Also, do not light fireworks less than 100 yards from electric plants, water treatment plants, wastewater treatments plants, gas stations, refineries, electric substations, jails or prisons, helipads, hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities.
What types of fireworks am I not permitted to light?
Display fireworks should not be used by the general public. If you have not been legally permitted by Fire Temporary Permit from the Gwinnett County Fire Marshal’s Office to hold a fireworks display, you can only light consumer fireworks, which can be found at any licensed suppliers in Georgia.
Who can buy fireworks?
Anyone 18 years or older can buy fireworks if they are purchased from a licensed supplier. It is illegal for anyone under 16 to hold or use fireworks.
How do I safely discard used fireworks?
After using fireworks, be careful to safely discard them. Twenty minutes after the show is finished, soak fireworks in water for a few hours. Then, throw them away in the trash.
This Independence Day, remember to be courteous to your neighbors. Follow the instructions on the package to safely light your fireworks and stay a safe distance away during the show. Let’s all have a safe and fun Independence Day by obeying all County and state laws.
