TUESDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Sunshine, low humidity to rule the day

Tuesday is expected to be the kind of summer day that some people have waited for, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“You’re going to smile as soon as you get outside,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “It feels great.”

With a slim chance of rain and a cold front moving dry air through the state, it will be a good day to leave your umbrella at home and enjoy the sunshine.

“It is a nice break from the summertime humidity and the summertime storms,” Monahan said.

Temperatures are currently in the high 60s and low 70s in North Georgia, which is more typical during the first days of fall, according to the news station. The air is especially crisp and cool in the North Georgia mountains, where temperatures started as low as 56 degrees.

“It still gets hot later in the afternoon, but the humidity will be nice and comfortable for you,” Monahan said.

Temperatures will quickly climb to 70 by 8 a.m., 79 by 10 a.m., 84 by noon, and will cap out at 90 degrees in the afternoon. Some areas could catch a stray shower or two, but with just a 10% chance of rain in the forecast, it isn’t likely, according to Channel 2.

However, that will change over the next few days.

“It’s going to stay pretty unsettled on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and into your weekend,” he said.

Rain chances increase to 40% Wednesday and 60% Thursday and Friday, according to the latest forecast. Some parts of the state will see between 1 and 2 inches of rain before the end of the week, Monahan said.

It’s an easy ride through much of metro Atlanta, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. There are only a few hangups.

One eastbound lane of I-20 is blocked at Thornton Road due to a crash, the Traffic Center reported. Drivers should expect delays in the area.
